I'm not mad, just a little bit sad, and disappointed that our friends didn't let me know that you wanted something ultra-high performance for you editing and storage needs! We're going to build one and see how it stacks up against a Jellyfish!. Find out how we did this with Patrick Kennedy from servethehome.com/

@tal Have you seen the video's where Alex works on DIY cooling solutions? I really like them, but Linus makes it pretty clear that they get better value from buying off the shelf waterblocks, radiators, and fans. Still, their water cooling a PC with the kitchen sink video is hilarious.

They have succumbed to mob rule, I would call them sheep but these humans are more like misguided mindless wolf packs attacking anything they perceive to be out of order. The sheep are done for, the sheppard will be eaten up as well.

A Big Brother's dream come true , but i know how the movie / TV / internet industries will find these new servers valuable and an absolute must. I'm wondering though if this could also apply to the trading system within online games. Thing is i have been playing Path_of_Exile for many years now and as this game grew better in quality and larger in content the trading system became slower and slower because of the insane amount of information the servers have to handle. I spoke with a few the well advised people in the community and they let me know that the core of the problem was more with the software which is making the searches and sorting the listed items than the hardware itself. Can anyone fill me in about these kind of challenges ? … Also i can imagine how the stock market could see promising upgrades if they were provided with an extra layer of security. Thanks and keep us posted :-)

Hard Drives are stupid anyway. Only people who buy them are either too careless or too stupid to realize they’re buying hard drives. Its just common sense.
They need to stop selling hard drives so SSDs can become cheaper.

Spending $40k on a full mechanical drive server with modern drives in a RAID 5? Hah, whoever got the Jellyfish, you have just gotten scammed.
Linus on the other end spends the same exact money and makes a full-SSD server, which is much faster.

If the prices different is not that big, why didn't go to the big company since they will give you a much better solution if you still want to spend money more than build your own stuff. I think that is the point what Linus want to say and I totally agree with him.

It always amazes me companies give away hard drives like this for free by the thousands, thinking just cause someone on youtube is flashing them off, that i'm going to go out and buy a 1200 dollar hard drive. If you can afford to give thousands of 1200 dollar drives away for free, why not lower the cost to a reasonable point for everyone??

@Moon Mail Full solutions provided by (at least decent) companies can help with many issues though. Compatibility or tricks on cramping it up a notch when using it under specific conditions, an overall warranty for the whole system, usually proper QA, burn-ins and compatibility checks for the whole setup and sometimes having their custom software or drivers do some magic for better performance or user experience as well. The point is, DIY is completely valid, but paying for a full solution is not outrageous either and it definitely makes sense if you don't want to deal with things over time. It's also a thing of preference. If you work on your stuff 12 hours a day, you don't necessarily want to deal with tech issues you only have very limited knowledge of on top, even if it's just for 10 minutes. If that extra money makes your life more enjoyable, why not.

                                                                        1) the whole video talks about how they threw away money on HDD, wich are unreliable and more likely to fail than SSD's.
                                                                        2) is not like you buy garbage and start working up to get better performance like in a car, you literally spend less money, put the parts together and run. Its probably 3 hours more if you arent tech savvy, wich they claim they are, as tech youtubers.

I mean you can make up excuses all you want for being ignorant but you cant defend after this video the purchase of a Jellyfish. Its just foolish to say "yeah its more reliable and it saves us time cus we edit too much all day and got no time". Just own it. "I didnt knew we could do that thing, fuck" or "yeah I know but I dont care".

Edit: actually its even worse. Say they really dont have any time, full 24 hrs editing non stop. Oh shit but you know linus, with a team of hardcore geeks in networking and multiple editors solutions. Just go "hey linus buy me a cool server, im too busy, you can make a video and I pay for the resources" (You can change linus with anyone actually, maybe a friend? sponsor? Wich now that I think about it maybe it was all a sponsor for Jellyfish)

If it's good for a certain reason, you show that. Not just stick to your own experiences & instead reaching out to others to understand why. You're more of a Journalist than a tech show host.
