I really have limited experience with dodge... but I would definitely go and look at any car and price out the parts you think you will need prior to bidding. The cars I have been bidding on lately have been selling for way more than I feel comfortable bidding on. Now that I know all the hidden costs it makes me do a little more research before I will throw a high bid out.

Bought my first car from Copart about a month ago. It is a 2009 Toyota Prius touring. It only has 59k miles with hatch and very light roof damage. I found a hatch on the market place for 60 bucks with matching paint and straitened out the roof. Bought it with fees for 985 dollars. I have all in after fixed 1300. I figure it’s worth 4K.

@Brett Buckley u have to go check them 1st. I've bought a few good ones. And only buy from insurance company never from a dealer or private seller. That means they bought it and it was way more than they thought. And have some1 that is good as fixing floods. U need to kno electronics and able to replace computers if needed. Car-parts is a website of junk yards al over the us. Price things out 1st also b4 y bid. Some cars like Audi infinity parts are super high.. I'm bidding in a 18 accord flood I checked it sounds good windows radio sunroof all work the seats are stuck. The engine starts right up . It's from a dealer so I'm low balling the bid up to 12000. The most. I'm expecting 2000 in repairs. I high ball it and if it's less I'm extra winning.

You also can't use your deposit to pay for the car ether. They have to mail you back the deposit if you want it back. They owe me money as well and I haven't asked for it back just in case something pops up that I want.

True. I asked if I could use it toward the purchase and they said no.

I've been to that copart. I've also been to Pittsburgh east and over to altoona copart as well. I'm about in the middle of all of them. it's like a 45 minute to an hour drive to each of them.

@Brett Buckley Well like I said I am more centrally located to them. only one i haven't been to yet is Pittsburgh south. But it is in driving distance as well. I just haven't seen anything that i had to go look at. The one in Altoona that i went to look at had a clean title with a buy it now price on a ford ranger 4x4. I am glad i went to look at it and just didn't click buy it now. I looked under it and the frame was almost rusted in half.

You have a new subscriber due to the fact that you are new to Copart and have explained the process of what you have to do when registering with them.
Even though I live in the UK, I reckon that your channel is still going to help me if I decide to go the Copart route over here and also I really enjoyed your no nonsense explanation.
Looking forward to watching the rest of this series and by then I should have caught up with your next project.

Fees are high.i bought a sweet 2007 trailblazer for 750 with all fees 1150. Internet bid gate fees and some other things. But somewhat worth it. The staff at copart has to be calm because they are always busy all day.

There is a special section on Copart for no license required - for private parties that aren't dealers.

Pennsylvania doesn't require a dealer licenses to bid or purchase cars. No broker needed for Pa. Here is a link to the website that breaks it down state by state. https://www.copart.com/content/us/en/landing-page/no-license-required

@Under Cover Pennsylvania doesnt require a dealers license, anyone can bid. I believe that makes the prices of the cars more expensive but you dont have to pay broker fees. So it may be a wash. I was interested in a car at a copart in Michigan and looked into using a broker and it was going to cost around $400 to use them just to be able to bid in Michigan. I passed on that car. There is a map online that shows what states need dealers license and brokers and which dont. If I can find it again I'll post the link.

@Hack Daddy - Official - my auction fees were 600, a 79 dollar pre auction bid fee and $59 gate fee. I paid with a bank check - they call that secured funds and that saved me $175. If you used a credit card or debit card you would have gotten charged the extra.

It's because insurance companies are scammers. They lowball the vehicle from that stupid Blue Book and then they quote OEM parts prices directly from the dealership which is always marked up 15-20%. If the car costs more to fix than what they say its worth, surprise, totaled. You can always take the claim money and fix it yourself but people treat cars as disposable cups now.
90% of whats on Copart is just missing bumpers and door dings. I am looking for a cheap Volt and I found one for $600 starting bid for a 2015 model and it just has 2 dents in the door and a missing hubcap.

B4 u buy make sure u have body shop and mechanics set and know prices. U cannot use a bidy shop that does insurance companies they will over charge u. Ur profit is mostly made from mechanic and body shop labor being low. U have to sell urself to them as a dealer and u will be bringing them many cars.

Yeah the car-part.com is basically just like a search tool you can put in what you’re looking for and and a search radius from your zip code and it’ll give you junkyards in that radius that have the part you’re looking for most of them have pics and the ones that don’t at least list the color of the part

If you’re looking for parts for your car check out car-part.com you’ll pay a little more then say eBay or something like that but you can find used parts that are the same color so up front you might pay more but it’ll save in paint cost

Yeah I’m gonna fix the damage then probably sell it I’ve been buying and selling from Copart for a few years now I live in Warren Ohio so the PA north yard is one of 3 that I buy from the most

@drf02 you can get more than that back out of it no matter the condition selling parts on Ebay then scraping it.

I have a porta power and auto body hooks. I dont think it's going to take too much to get it back to where the trunk will latch.

h22sparks I would consider the electric seats as “flood damage” even after dried up can still cause a random fire at any given moment. Never buy water damaged vehicles!
