Shocks, Suspension, CLEARING THE AIR | Cross Kart Pt. 10

  • We had a bunch of comments saying that we mounted our front suspension to the chassis of our cross kart wrong, which would result in stress on the mounting points, and eventual failure. In this video, we clear up the issue, and explain what we did and how our setup won't have the problems that some commenters thought it would. We also mount the front shocks (although they're too soft, so we have to redo them), the rear shocks and suspension mounts (using more Miata parts), and mount the steering rack and tie rods. We almost have a roller!

    Thanks for Watching!

Screw clearing the air. Just get a bottle and take a shot every time some internet engineer makes a dumb comment bitching about your choice of parts or suspension design.

i am not a suspension guy or nothin but did you mention why you couldn't use the miata front suspension too? I thought they were real real drives so i was just curious.

well im 15 years old and ive welded more than enough to roll them dimes thx to my welding instructor but anyways idk what the hack they are saying that the welder is acting its either wire speed....most likely and or the shielding gas is being blown away but most likely since you can hear it sputtering it could be the wire speed/it is the wire speed

That particular chassis book is fucking trash; it's several decades out of date, and had bad info in it even when it was published new. I have it on my shelf and its terrible compared to anything written by Carroll Smith or Forbes Aird.

FWIW I think you've done a cracking job personally & it looks cool as hell, designing a perfect front end set up is boring, tedious & massively time consuming so to basically wing it with the help of your book is a great achievement in my book - Frankenkart is nearly done :-)

Check your ground but not at the clamp but inside the cabinet I've seen another YouTuber run into that and what it was was the connection sort of came a little loose it could be something totally different but that's what solved that kind of a problem with another YouTuber

I just heard a gunshot in the background , aren't they houses just too close to each other to be discharging a firearm in the woods? Don't get me wrong I'm very pro gun I just believe in safe operation of firearms

it's probably 80 to 90 degrees outside and you've been working out there for several hours probably the welder just needs to be turned off for about an hour to cool down

That's why I always have a spool of flux core wire around. If you run out of gas or you have to weld outside in the wind, the flux core doesn't care.

Why didn't you move the bottom shock mount for the front suspension to the lower arm, near the axle? You could have also brought out the top mounts to make the shock stand up right as much as possible..

As you know automotive new tie rod ends and ball joints are very tight in the beginning too so many people who have never actually worked with things shouldn't make comments. As far as saftey it's up to you I've learned alot in my life from making and doing sketchy things. Keep up the good work it'll be fine

So, just semantics, but "Heim Joints" are technically a brand (from the original designer). These style of joints in a generic lable are "Spherical Rod End Joints". The tractor style that you bought are typically designed with a tighter ball race. This keeps empliment tools from loosely tracking while in storage mode, and while being pulled under load behind the tractor.

If you had bought motorsports grade Spherical Ball Joints/Spherical Rod End Joints, most of them would have had less friction applied during the manufacturing tolerance process.

Just fyi. Not super important for what you guys are doing. Just though you guys and others might like to know. Offroading and Race Car Spherical Rod End Joints are typically a bit stiffer as well, as they are designed to maintain tighter tolerances while under extreme force loads.
