@Rovid Bouski I also have a yr 2001 E55 AMG and I'm not putting no 87 or 89 octane in it when the tank clearly says 91 octane only.

No no no scotty if I use the 87 gas in my yr 2000 maxima the car is hard to start and even cuts off or the idle dips sometimes when I stop at stoplights. It never does it with 89 octane

That's just stupid lol. Food stuff you put into your body has to be labeled according to the FDA for many reasons. Fuels have regulations also to make sure their safe for your vehicle and environment to an extent anyway.

I drive a mint 1999 Lincoln and a 2013 Dodge Caravan. Both cars run well on 87 octane but both cars gain approximately 3 miles more per gallon on the higher grades or 50 extra miles per tank. The car also labors less on the higher octane.

My 03 Avalon recommends premium. I ran regular for the first few months of owning the car and then did a full tank of premium. My car runs and sounds much much better when I use premium so that’s now all I use.

Scotty did hit on one thing talking about that modern, turbo-engined Mustang. A lot of the turbo engines have a program to run on 87 octane gasoline without damaging the engine. However, there is an accompanying loss of power with that program. At higher octane levels, they switch to a different program, which "gives you your power back". Basically, the power you paid for is what it can do with the higher octane gas, with the side ability to run the cheaper stuff. I drive a car with a modern turbo engine, and can tell a difference between 87 and 89 octane fuels, but no difference when moving up to 91. So, the programs seem to switch between the two based on that little bit of octane difference.

I have had 4 vehicles before my Camry. I used Premium or Mid Grade. If I ran the Regular my vehicles would keep on running when shut down. The higher Octanes did not do this.
