I dont mind. Phones are tools. What i consider jaw dropping feature or what not is something that legitimately makes life in general easier. For everyone regardless of age. I personally dont like how the details transfer. Like... everyone slowly drops the headphone jack to save money... but why arent they all adding pens? That thing is great! And id love something like it on an i phone... or any other phone for that matter...

We are being way overcharged for the top of the line cell phones. They'd still make profits by cutting current prices in half.

People should keep their phones for at least 3 years. No need to buy a new one each year.

Can't trust Huawei's numbers. Or anything else about it. Ultimately it, like all companies in the PRC, are extensions of the corrupt, thieving Communist Cancer that subjugates and exploits the world's people, especially the Chinese people, every day.

it is normal. smartphones are portable handheld PCs. with PC sales and prices coming down. it is hard to justify the price of smartphones going up. unless you use your smartphone for productivity work. it is very hard to justify the price. I feel that a laptop is still the best computing device for productivity work and media consumption. good keyboard and a much bigger screen than a smartphone.

          Spot on Dave!
Since the original iphone was launched not much has changed in terms of innovation.
Every phone manufacturer has relied on that model. Thereve been faster, larger, shinier phones...but its all in the same package.

I'm apple user who went from iPhone 6 to 11 after 5 years of usage. The differences in phones are nominal at best, which requires a jump of 5 years to actually see a difference. I'm only sticking with Apple ( despite knowing they are overpriced) because seamlessly integration of apps, contacts, music ... The differences are going to stay nominal at best from 11 to 16 they wouldn't be a massive difference most likely (besides appearance and specs). Unlike phones, consoles have a lifespan of 5-8 years plus the prices hardly change and hardware massively changes and is clearly illustrated. The prices of phones are consistently increasing, i mean the launch price of the original iPhone was $500-600 i think, now ranges from $700 - 1449.

Launching flagships frequently and making those who paid a Premium for them look like idiots after a few months; praising flawed design features like notches as something Premium; inspite of hybrid dual sim slot being the greatest adultery ever, making it sound cool by hypocritic marketing; simply ignoring consumer demands like retaining the headphone jack and forcing them to buy more expensive wireless headsets(Voila! Now you can spend half of your day charging your phone and the other half charging your headset😬); adding insult to injury, there's planned obsolescence 😬😬😬😬😤📴
All these have taken their toll and made the whole scene "doom and gloom". Manufacturers should do market study properly and be themselves rather than imitating stupid trends prevailing in market; in other words, INNOVATE or simply become extinct.

I've been rocking a Note gn-7000(note 1) since early 2012, but its finally stopped working so I have bought a OnePlus 7 pro, I dont intend to upgrade until at least 2025, maybe even 2030 if the battery survives. I paid £17 a month on contract for the Note 1, Its £40 for the OnePlus 7 pro, I cannot believe that I am spending so much on a phone, I am obviously better off than I have ever been and I'm on a state pension WTF.

Personally, I prefer software innovation, and we don't need phone manufacturers for that. In fact, manufacturers almost always do software inferior to 3rd parties.

the market is saturated and prices are going up, its a tough combo although i think companies know this and thats why they are starting to drop prices, even iPhones are dropping prices but I also agree that we are approaching peak smartphone, where smartphones just cannot get any better cause look at smartphones in 2019, we have displays so good they you cannot see pixels anymore, CPUS and GPUs so good you can -play games like PUBG and fortnite on a phone, the only place left really for huge innovations are batteries which will be solved once carbon-based batteries become viable, weeks of charge that only takes a few seconds to chasrge up

Even phones at 200/300 are snappy, work perfect with every day usage, the cpus inside them handle all tasks and rly if your thing isnt gaming then you are 100% satisfied. Ram is getting to the 4gig minimum even for cheaper phones too, more than enough for most ppl... nothing rly jaw dropping is coming from the phone market, nothing rly demanding is being released as a software that would launch phone productivity to the next level. Really, the only thing that separates avg mid rangers and top performers nowadays is the screen quality itself. Not even the cameras stand out that much anymore, yeah you wont be a full time photographer with a midrange phone, but neither will the 1k flagship take you there, and for just everyday snap takers, difference is not that big...

Is it not the fact hardware has reached a point where we don't need to upgrade every copy of years now?

Five years ago a two year old phone would have become somewhat slower (so a 2012 phone in 2014), due to the increases in software and requirements. In addition to that, cameras were getting better year on year and it made some sense to upgrade relatively frequently.

Today a two year phone (2017 in 2019) can do everything you want it to and quickly, and it is likely the camera is pretty good and does everything you need it to.

Basically like desktop PCs - there isn't really much point in upgrading as frequently anymore as an older phone can do everything you need it to.

Samsung and Apple are ridiculously priced. There is not a cell phone on the planet worth $900.00 let alone $1300.00 like the Samsung Note 10+. Plus these scumbag companies have unethical [ractices like slowing down people's phones and who knows what other problems they are intentionally creating via updates. People including myself are fed up with these practices and not getting what I pay for. If I buy a 1300.00 phone I expect it to work perfectly for no less than 5 years as I am someone who keeps the phone in an otterbox all the time. The expectation to get a new phone every year is ridiculous and people who do that are immature and irresponsible. I am currently looking for a budget phone for the first time and will not be spending 1000.00 on anybody's cell phone.
