You can have clean hiphop that's still hiphop - BTS does a great job of it. Even their diss tracks are pretty clean as that sort of thing goes, just like "look in the mirror before you talk shit about us" & "we're being true to ourselves, worry about your own neck, loser." One of their best hiphop tracks of all time is about the generational gap and how millennials (the baepsae/crow tits) are being treated by the boomers/"storks." Great stuff, Trevor should check it out, he'd definitely like it.

Let me try to explain it as I am one that prefers the clean version of songs and it's not only about the kids it's about me as well. I grew up with a Christian up bringing and today although I don't go to church much I still see it as disrespectful to God and myself. That doesn't mean that I can't like or appreciate the music; I like almost all genres of music(heavy metal being the exception). I'm from the Caribbean and I love love Vybz Cartel's music and I think he may have one of the filthiest mouthes I've heard but I have all the clean versions of his songs. I also listen Nicki Minaj, Cardi B and lots more. Even my girl Rihanna, if she has cuss words in her songs I listen to the clean version. So I was very surprised when Trevor compared the preference to country music without heartbreak. It's much more than that but to each his own

I buy clean versions so I could play it around those who don't like cursing or other lewd language and I don't cause much so I prefer the clean versions so I don't have to hear it. Lol!!

On one hand, I can play the clean version of rap songs at work. On the other hand, taking the explicit lyrics out of rap is like taking the cheese off the pizza.

What if you want to sing along to songs you like, but you're white so you don't want to be singing the N word? Can there be semi-clean versions for white people? 🤣

I love Trevor, but I have to disagree with his statement " how would you want hip hop, without the hip hop?" Hip out is not just about lewd lyrics. I grew up in The Bronx in the 70's. Hip hop was all about the beats, the rythyms, percussion, and if the emcee could rhyme/rap to that beat. If it were a battle, then the emcee with the best rhymes won. Lewd lyrics weren't a part of it. Emcees were trying to prove how articulate, and imaginative they were. Nowadays, you can barely understand what they're saying. They've become inaudible, repetitive, and unimaginative. I listen to rap music today, solely for the beat. Which is so often sampled from old recordings. Not all of today's rappers are talentless thugs, but a lot of them are. They're just marketable I guess. I would love to find a rapper today that could drop an album with new beats, and original rhymes that I could play at family gatherings, work etc. without worrying about offensive lyrics.

Censored rap lyrics are stupid. If you want clean rap music either listen to 80s rap music or watch Disney or Nickelodeon.

Clean versions are stupid. Just play the song like it's supposed to be played, if you don't like it don't listen to it. Smh, I don't listen to some rap songs just because they have such misogynistic lyrics. But I really do love hip hop and there are a plethora of songs that are free of all that bullshit. I don't like the objectification of women in these songs but it's not just men but female rappers call themselves hoes and bitches too. Old school artists like Queen Latifah and MC Lyte didn't rap about such things too bad we can't go back to those days!! But I mainly listen to the old school rappers because they rapped about social injustices and the whole black experience. It was just a lot more positive back then. You can tell they were trying to make our communities better, when you learn where hip hop started and the real purpose for it then i think you can appreciate the art form a lot more. Please listen to Nas, KRS One, Big Daddy Kane, The Sugarhill Gang, hip hop has evolved which is a blessing and a curse. Blessing-Kendrick Lamar, Curse-mumble rappers lol.

They tease me about it and I'm like you maybe cool with me but someone who randomly hears me won't be. I'd rather just avoid any potential misunderstandings.
