This is why trade schools are good and need to be more available. In my area, we do have different tracks you can take in high school that focus on your interest. I think this idea is expanding because not everyone wants, or needs, to go to college to do what they want to do, or feel they need to do.

Maximize the bleep out of your strengths, and forget about your weaknesses. Know what those are to you. You will have sufficient success at your best thing.

Interesting to have someone from the actual midwest for once in your position. I took the ACT as most kids are forced to do and actually got a 36. I do well, or at least did well, with test taking and academics. The downside of getting this score though was that both my parents and all of my teachers completely disregarded my interest in mechanics, machining/fabrication, and woodworking and were all determined I had to go to a nice university because I had top marks in everything.

I like solving problems and building things with my hands, which is what I decided to do after getting a Mathematics degree at university. Went from being fairly miserable to as happy as I've ever been and I get to work on all kinds of interesting problems on engines ranging from small engines to commercial trucks/buses. I should have just worked for the family business and towards what I do now after school instead of wasting 4 years and most of what I made off my Apple stocks after they went from ~4 USD to 400 USD when the iPhone came out. That money could have got me the shop I have now and a good chunk of the tools I use for machining/fabrication.

i don't know my strengths so i don't know what too focus on, i'm making music at the moment, it seems to be going alright but its not a job, i don't get any income from it and i feel like i'm just a waste of a person because i don't feel like i can do anything useful, i'm not doing so good mentally either, i've got a doctors appointment soon to get my mental health checked and i dont think the results are going to turn out well.

the last 4-5 months i've had pretty bad insomnia and have been going to sleep almost every day between 7am-1pm
i dont have school, collage or a job to worry about so i could sleep whenever i wanted and even though i went too sleep at 1pm i woke up at 3pm
i haven't had over 5-6 hours of sleep for over 2 months and every time i wake up i feel like i did a marathon the previous day
my mental state is declining fast and i don't know what to do anymore.

4:07 reminds me of my health teacher in 6th grade. She told us that men's bodies have two holes and women have three, therefore women are the superior gender.
And that question was on several tests, "which gender is superior? Which gender is evolutionaly more advanced? Which gender is physically and mentally superior?"
In 6th grade. When I was 11 years old. The only thing she taught me was that feminism is void of morality.

The university becoming the universal standard of education is a problem. Up until recent years in America and most other nations that I'm aware of, education was always functional. You learned to read, write, and do arithmetic because these are universally useful. If you don't know how to read or write, then you have to talk with someone to communicate, and if you can't do arithmetic, then you won't be able to do anything quantitative, and since almost everything can be improved through applying some quantitative techniques, you will be outperformed everywhere.

But, why should 8 hours or more a day be spent pretending to learn material that you will never appreciate for the rest of your life? Because there is a cult of education. There is no good justification for forcing you to learn things that only cult members will appreciate. Of course, if you desire to learn, then you should be free to do so. Libraries are beautiful things, and so is an uncensored internet where you can access great ideas and information of scale and quality never before to grace humanity.

I agree with this to a degree... so I took the GAMSAT 3 times to get into medical school. 3rd time lucky I passed and got into the school I wanted. Then did really well in medical school and passed all my exams with good marks. I was in the top decile of my class once I got in. My point is... I think you can let yourself fail a few times but if you keep failing and you're trying some new approach each time to try and pass then maybe consider giving up at that point. But don't give up too soon. You can learn a lot from failure. I certainly have.

Interesting, in the UK we narrow down our options a lot earlier than america (pick 3 or 4 subjects to learn between 16 to 18 years old, then in university most students study ONE discipline... no other classes). I got plenty of time to develop my strenghts, but I alway's envied that in America you had more time to try things out and make a decision. This is an interesting perspective. (Also sammmmmmmeeee, my brain is wired for science and maths and CERTAINLY not english literature... 😂).

My Mom got a BSBA at university and was thus qualified to be an accountant in Indiana, where she worked and made a good living. She lived in Kentucky, across the Ohio River, and in order to be an accountant in Kentucky, she would have to work as an intern someplace. In order to do that, she would have had to quit her job and take a $10,000.00 per year cut in pay from where she worked. Since she was a qualified CPA in Indiana and that was where she would work her whole career, there was no reason four the internship.

You are right: why chase things that aren't "your thing" when what you have is sufficient for your life needs? Why put yourself out for what isn't necessary?

feminist - comes from Latin "femina" meaning woman and "ist" coming from English denoting an advocate
criticism - comes from Greek "kritikos" meaning someone skilled at judging

Mass homogenized education models are antithetical to the cultivation of genius. If learning styles are integrated and natural gifts, talents and interests amplified, students can find their inherent purpose and reach their genius potential more readily.

If you focus on the weakness of a structure and apply pressure to improve it in that area, you'll probobly collapse the building forcing the structure to be rebuilt. If you focus on it's strengths, that structure can be utalized and built on those strengths alone without having to waste time rebuilding.

Coming from a background in pharmacy, I took evening courses in commercial art and I was amazed at how differently art students perceived the world over that of someone with a science background. We have two "brains" to access (Right side vs left) and I think those who tend to gravitate towards right brain thinking have typically been ostracized in traditional school settings.
