The origin of life… it's a big question. Maybe the biggest.

Head to PBS Space Time and Eons and watch the rest of this collab!

@Erick Nyevz How do you know it never occurs? How do you know it's not reoccurring constantly?

Oh, and that's not a question no one asks. Its asked all the time. When I'm asked, my answer is always the same.

The question no one asks is why does it never happen again? Why does the creation of life from nothing never reoccur? How much of a barrier is it in the first place if as far as we know it has only happened once in this universe. More importantly only once on earth. In earths habitable starting time it took little time for life to begin. In all the time after it should of happened another time.

Tom Quirici lol wtf an atheistic point of view isn’t forced down our throats like religion used to be, science serves to make us question our past beliefs, scientific methods are also developed with many thousands of researchers around the globe and checked repeatedly and confirmed to be acccurate within a certain degree

We don't know that 'the universe', if it is a 'universe', is a closed system, so I don't accept that the laws of thermodynamics can be employed to conclude that 'the universe' is moving toward an entropic equilibrium, or 'heat death' as some say.

@Dell Scotten The honest answer to the origin of life is I do not know.

However we know RNA and DNA can be formed through natural processes. As such the "information" of RNA and DNA can arise naturally.

We also know that this information in RNA and DNA over time can change, also again through natural processes.

DNA is made of RNA and RNA can be made from the chemicals thought to be found in a pre-biotic Earth. Several experiments have shown this. Have a read of Abiogenesis. It is not fully understood but has gone some of they way of explaining how life could have occurred this way.

The "information" is just how this RNA/DNA regulates other chemicals.

@May Ling That's how the brain knows something is there. But how are we able to think & make decisions? I want to know what steps specifically led from water flowing along a river to animals being able to choose where to go & what to do. Sure, aside from us, lt's mostly just seeking out food. Smell & sight can tell animals where food is. But how are they able to decide to go after that food to eat lt, rather than just move in a straight line?

Yes, the brain uses neurons to send signals to nerves & muscles. But from a non-life perspective, how is this possible? What was that evolutionary step that allowed life to go from moving randomly through chemical reactions to moving purposely toward what we want/need?

Even over billions of years, lt's hard to imagine how inanimate matter can eventually forge lts own paths & become animate.

For example, smell, the olfactory neurones in the upper part of the nose generate an impulse which is passed to the brain along the olfactory nerve. That is what tells you the source of some good food when you walk down the block. The other senses act in a similar manner.

If it can die that means it's alive unless of course it is already dead and then that means it was alive. A rock does not die because it is not alive. So there we go a perfectly fine workable definition.

Yet we don’t have an example of this earlier like that has made it. It at least begs the question of whether life is extraterrestrial in nature. I’m not saying it is.
