Hope you guys liked this episode! Longest and most time consuming video I’ve ever made 😂 I do want to cover the future rumors/speculation about the 2021+ Ram Dakota so that’ll be coming soon!

I think the new Ford Ranger is going to end up like the Dakota, because it barely looks any smaller than the F-150!

Your conclusions about the demise of the Dakota largely mirror my own - by 2011, there was no longer much of an advantage to buying a Dakota over a full-size truck. I had a first gen Dakota S regular cab short bed with the 2.5L 4 cylinder and while the engine wasn't powerful, there was a big advantage in gas mileage over the full-size Rams at the time.

You forgot that the Shelby & Convertible could be ordered with the 2.5L Turbo II 4 cylinder from 1989-1990 models.

I bought a 94 Dakota short bed with a 5.2 V8 and a 5 speed manual and it was the best truck I ever owned ! The third gen was to big, a bit ugly
and overpriced. Thank you Mopar for another stupid decision.

You can still sell a smaller model with looks like the second gen and at a lower price point but that might be way to smart for you guys at Chrysler.

Once Fiat took over Chrysler, things really began going down for this and all other Chrysler/Dodge products. RIP!

I Read a few comments suggesting the Dakota is coming back on the Gladiator platform. I'm skeptical. I can only see that happening as a Plan B scenario where the Gladiator does not sell over time and they have to switch to the volume seller, cheaper option. Then it would mean, if the Dakota were to come out, it would not have many options to start. It would it be smaller than the Gladiator, so as not to tread on the 1500 market. Would it compete against Ranger, Colorado and Tacoma? Or even a Ridgeline? The days of super thin doors and bare bones frames are gone. Is it supposed to be small again? Is it supposed to be a sports truck? Is it supposed to haul 5 tons??? I just don't see it packing a big heavy V8, but maybe a turbo 4 cyl with like an 8 speed auto transmission. Ugh. If you want a total off-road beast, get the Gladiator, Wrangler, or Tacoma. So I don't see major off-roading in its future. Is it supposed to be car-like, as a Ridgeline? Double Ugh! Lastly, would it follow the current design language of Ram or Dodge? Appearance cannot be underestimated. I guess the big problem for FCA to solve is how to avoid repeating the cycle described in the video. I hope they get it right (and include a manual option).

I really liked the second generation Dakota. They should have stuck with that same size truck and offered a better choice of engines a good four cylinder, v6 and 2 v8's. Regular cab, extended and crew cab with short and long beds. I think also Chrysler Corporation didn’t have the funds to do a complete line.

I've got a 2011 st dakota with the 3.7 cut the muffler off. Shortly after that had to replace the transmission at 165k miles. It now has a little over 205k miles and not sure what's wrong with it. Replaced crank sensor and fuel pump, think its b.s. that 2010-11 they built the fuel pressure regulator into the fuel pump, and still not running right.try and get parts from the dodge house for it and they want an arm and a leg

3.7 L is a 4.7L V8 with 2 cylinders chopped off. The 4.7 v8 is a 4.6L ford clone. Look at the two engines side by side and tell me they didn't copy Ford's butt dumpling of an engine. Chrysler succeeded in making it worse in every way they could.

They didnt even put an E Fan on it( which would have helped mileage and acceleration. It was the worst vehicle I ever owned, had it for 12 years, everytime you turned around there was another repair to make on it.
No more Rams for me, the Dakota got to big and heavy and the Quality was not that great either, it was very scary trying to merge with traffic .Other than that I sort of liked the truck,( I hated that redesign, what was the point?)
