The Golden Head Cover, number one needs to be recognized. Be Kewl if every number one got a Ring to signify the Achievement.

OK, Tiger actually does not need to actually maintain this level of play meaning he does NOT need another major or anything close, really, to likely become world number 1 again. In fact, just some consistent play with a few more top tens and another win would easily do it from the fact that all of the points recently added at the Masters and those that be added the rest of the year will be weighed at a far greater value than the points on his record from early 2018 and because that play in the first halve of 2018 was not at the level it has been at since after last year's US Open and because of that, Tiger's total world ranking points will not depreciate in value as much as the points of those above him in the ranking will. Because of this, Tiger would have to take a rather sudden & surprising downturn in his consistency or for one of the 5 guys ranked above him to consistently outplay him for the rest of the year to stop him from overtaking them.

So yeah. Not saying it's right or wrong, it's just the math of the current system. In fact, I personally don't like the version of the rankings now that more heavily weigh more recent play because it doesn't reward longer-term consistent play as much as it does more recent form and since the move to this more "what have you done for me lately" style of world ranking system we have gotten tons of 1-hit wonders as it pertains to the world ranking only for those individuals to have achieved it without majors or achieve it and then drop out without ever winning anything again. On top of that, we have more of a revolving door of a ranking system with the ranking that is supposed to rank who is the best player in the game of golf not being based as much on more long-term consistent success as previous versions did.

Granted, I do think some of the earliest models did not reward recent play enough which lead to a person winning two events in a year and still not qualify for a WGC event so it did need to change but they went too far with it.

Even at tigers very worst he’s still in the top 2000 people in the world who plays golf. If you think about how many people play golf that says a lot about his greatness as a player.

I was in the crowd swarming the green, chanting “Tiger! Tiger! Tiger!” On the 18th hole at the Masters after he made that putt. I honestly cried. He walked by me about 8 feet away with tears in his eyes and a smile.
It was as close to a religious experience that I’ve ever had. That will no doubt probably be the greatest sporting moment that I will witness in my life.

As long as he keeps getting regular top 10 finishes and the odd tournament win I think we could see him at number 1 at the end of the year. Also with the majors been played on favourable courses for him and the other young players showing signs of choking against the Tiger factor (so many of them were feeling the pressure in that back 9) he could very well win another major this year.

I think if he is within 2 strokes of these young players on the back 9 on a Sunday afternoon at a major he will win until they can learn to handle the intense pressure, all Tiger has to do is be patient and play conservative and smart like he did at the masters. He knew these players were feeling the pressure at Augusta hence why we didn’t see him play anything risky at all and went in for the kill at the moment the players were feeling the most heat.

                                                                  • J Bronee

It's not the mythical Tiger effect, it's the pressure of winning a tournament on Sunday and a major no less. You want to go down the list of guys who have choked over the years? I dont even think Molinari choked in this event (also he's also already shown he can handle the pressure you just described so wtf?) and neither did Xander, Brooks or DJ. Maybe Finau did but it was always going to be hard to back that round up.

Tiger won a bunch of tournaments mainly because he was better, not because others were scared. I'm tired of that lazy narrative.

I’m impressed with his comeback but he’s not at the level he was 15 years ago. Him winning another major this year is a tall order and even his Masters win wasn’t as impressive as most of his other majors. Not saying it can’t happen, I’m just not convinced yet.

Yes it will be difficult and getting to 18 is pretty imposing but this is Tiger Woods we are talking about and he keeps proving everyone wrong. Though from hearing what Tiger has been saying catching Jack isn’t his priority but playing for his kids is so they experience what it is like for their dad to win majors and what Tiger Woods is all about
