What's the difference between synthetic and natural oil, other than that one is man-made?

I'm look for a reliable cheap logging tool for monitoring check engine lights. if possible i would go so far as to hope for something that can see relays not function properly.

So on another page I saw a guy put oil in the new filter because when you start the engine it allows the oil to immediately lubricate than when there's no oil in the filter.

3-4k miles? Is that normal on American vehicles? Most vehicles in UK are spec'd by manufacturer for Oil and Filter every 10k miles.

Wouldn't you want the oil at least warmed up somewhat seeing as oil gets slightly thinner when warm and flows much better draining much more more oil and possible contaminants ( metal shavings etc) with it? Also why don't you open and remove the fill cap before it's draining to allow to drain faster? You should never need an extension bar to remove the drain bolt either but that doesn't really matter as long as you don't use the bar to reinstall the drain bolt😀

Someone needs to tell Scotty that there is no such thing as oil weight if he is going to make a video about doing it wrong. Oil is never measured by weight. It is measured by viscosity and the W stands for winter.

Gotta disagree about the oil I’ve ran 15w40 last 380k when the engine requires 5w30 it runs smoother and cooler oil temps with 20k in between oil changes and oil samples come back perfect

Never had a problem using my old drain plug gasket after changing oil. I'd do so if its cracked or deformed though. As long as there's no leak, not a big deal to me at the least...

I wonder how many idiots will put a breaker bar on the drain bolt and just sheer it right off as they over-tighten it thinking that they are loosening it? If you can't untighten a drain bolt with a regular wrench or ratchet, then maybe you shouldn't be doing anything mechanical.

You will get that "glugg glugg" problem. Hold the can on the side, and it will pour smothe, because air can enter the can.

Additionally with Mercedes OM642 diesels you must use only oil approved as MB229.51 or 52. You are not likely to find at Walmart. ( I’ve only found once in the last 8 years). I keep a reserve of at least two oil changes, 26 qts and buy on sale at NAPA a couple times a year to avoid the $13/qt suggested retail cost.

Also I use paper towels to wipe clean the filter base on the engine and never ever use cloth towels. Then I torque the pan bolt plug to the proper torque setting which on my Chrysler mini van is 18 foot pounds. Then start the engine let idle do not race it and check for leaks.

I wonder how many people will do the same as you and end up stripping the threads??? This is a BAD video!
