No one should keep dogs in urban environments unless they are assistance dogs. They are bad for the environment. Better to eat them.

Poor, innocent sheep. What a cruel undertaking. Maybe the sheep now have anxiety.

The sheep are used to it, cant you tell by the way they read the dog & not panic & throw themselves through a fence?

@Animals Are Our Angels what is one to do when they just find out that they have exposed to cancer the only thing that brings meaning to their lives. It is over for me. I hope you sleep well.

This is what happens when people get dogs based on aesthetic choices or because of what is trendy instead of choosing a dog based on the lifestyle it will be forced to live. Buying a sheep dog and expecting it to be satisfied in a flat/unit or even suburban backyard is stupid. We literally bred them to chase things for hours a day.

Of course, when the dog barks, jumps the fence, tears up the lawn, bites visitors, etc. we blame the animal and often just dispose of it. Dogs might be man's best friend, but man isn't anywhere near as often a dog's.

The ABC pandering and getting it WRONG! Or perhaps this journalist just thinks he's being witty. The saying is "dog's are man's best friend." In this instance "man" doesn't refer to biological men but more so humans.

Remember gang, your dogs need mental, not only physical exercise. Teach them how to play Scrabble.

You are totally right. It's absolutely cruel and selfish getting a working dog breed and keeping it as a pet in a suburban backyard. Many don't get enough mental stimulation OR physical exercise. It just shouldn't be allowed.

All my dogs, when I lived on properties, were trained not to hunt livestock or wild animals. They were there to protect, not attack. Good dogs they were. Best mates and knew their range.

My breed of choice is the ACD. You really must cater to their specific needs or you'll end up in a disaster zone. I have horses on agistment and take my dog out on bush trail rides. She loves it!

I have a 15 year old Cattle cross. His dad was a rescued pup that survived Parvo. Dingoes got him when he was 6 and Jack was about 3 months old. He was protecting his pack. We had, at that point, 23 dogs. Seven were adults, 8 were around 3/4 months old and the rest were a few weeks old. All were mixed breeds and all the adults were well-trained as family dogs. Oh, we were on a relatively remote 75-acre block surrounded by wildland and cattle leases. It was an interesting time.
