That's why this guy will eventually honorably commit suicide like so many other brave soldiers.

That man was broken by the military industrial complex, and was tricked into spending his life killing others by some constructed weird national pride. Poor dude.

Its not just one day. He killed someone. It's not that amazing that his life changed the day he brutally killed a man with a rock. You can have thousands of days and then brutally murder someone, and of course it's going to change you. Thanks for the noble words Joe. Lol.

To put it short : if you have second thoughts about killing a guy your place is not in the army , because your life and your teammates life might depend on you pulling that trigger or in this case smashing the guy's head with a rock

@ian pittman I'm aware of what he was trying to convey. My observation was intended to second guess the logic and sincerity at the core world views held in probably every nation that allow strangers in authority to define for people who "the enemy" is. even in spite of feeling human compassion, he still placed "the cause" (patriotism w/ no questions asked) above the things he actually felt. like he had to cling to it. For the record, Idk the details. so, maybe it was a good reason for war. But most people who get into, or support, these type of things ever ask questions. They just obey. Then, when they consider it's fucked up, they cling to the patriotic aspect rather than condemn. So, I didn't get lost. I just could of chosen a less shitty and vague way to comment on what I view as conditioned hypocrisy

Think you missed the mark there bro. He was fighting for what he loved, admits that his enemies believed something of the same, like him, then compared that to how we are constantly building shit on hate and differences instead of finding common ground. Don't know where you got lost.

This is the thing--its not about whether or not WE think we are wrong, its that we believe the OTHER guy is wrong. It makes a difference. Especially when the other guy cares more about you being wrong than you care about him. There will always be people who absolutely hate your entire existence--regardless of who you are. That's why war will always exist. Blaming it on governments and politics and money is just an excuse.

I think the banality of those types of situations is the hardest thing to process, understand, and appreciate. Such a profound and, at the same time, senseless moment shared between two people that know nothing about each other and yet shared one of the most significant moments of both of their lives together. Props to Dakota for sharing this and having a poignant discussion about it. Life is so weird man...
