You want better ping? Simple! Just spend a fortune and get your own server (I think it's technically a server) connected to the backbone fiber optic cables of the internet. Basically put yourself in front of the internet service providers and their consumers. Otherwise, it would be your current situation, where you have to wait for it to travel through your providers and every server & consumer under them, plus the countless miles of cables or satellite transmissions

I had a feeling dying was due to ping and at some points it was ,you can just tell. What I learned from this video, is to contact my ISP and ask about gaming options for online lol

most gaming routers say they prioritize packets of certain games (based on ports), but they hardly do. It's better to get some enterprise routers (only ethernet/RJ45, can add wifi optional), and hard- code the QoS prioritization queue, using various algorithms.

The problem with "lag" is people don't seem to understand the difference between frame drops and increase in ping. They're both called lag but are completely different issues. One "is your isp's fault" (in a sense, possibly your location and the location of the server) and one is your computer struggling to run the game smoothly.

Sonar basically listens to echo and based on response times shows obstacles or other submarines. Ping on computer is response time in which server can respond back. Hence why ping term was taken.

Also a bit of elaboration on gaming routers. You don't need gaming router, to get traffic prioritization. That feature exists on non-gaming routers too, it is called Quality of Service(QoS) and you can find it on quite a few routers, so no need to pay more just to get "gaming" router. Gaming here is just used to as usual price hike for features that are not necessarily limited to gaming routrers. You just need router that has QoS as feature and is capable of prioritizing "realtime traffic", which is what games are, since unlike movies, they can't load sections ahead of the time, they have to update situation on screen in real time.

Also since video makes it sound like gaming routers have better WiFi than normal, they don't. Gaming router and QoS does nothing for why WiFi is not reliable enough for time sensitive stuff, even if falcon made it sound like all of this belongs into same bucket. Problem of WiFi is very simply in how many things can effect its signal. Ping over WiFi will be varying far more than on UTP cable. Plus ping on WiFi will add even more delay than ping over UTP cable even if, it would be consistent. So if you can help it, use UTP cable, if not, make sure you are close enough to router to at least get full signal. Preferably in same room, because something as simple as a person going in hallway between you and router can impact response time on WiFi. Or even worse, someone closing the door. You potentially can have bit better time also if you have router with multiple antennas, but that is not guaranteed to fix all of your issues. Another thing that can impact ping on WiFi as well is just other WiFi networks around you. To split things up and allow multiple networks to co-exist, WiFi uses something called channels. Which allows WiFi networks to exist and not interfere each others, which also causes delays in ping. So if there are a lot of other networks, you might need to look for which channels are empty, preferably you would want clean channel with at least neighboring channels clear as well, but in some cases, best you can do is to pick channel with most distant devices in hope it improves things. But there are plenty of things no gaming router can ever fix, because they simply are part of how WiFi works. No amount of gaming in your router will fix that.

Also in worse case scenario, it might be worth checking out "powerline adapters", in case you can't get UTP cable from router to your room. powerline adapters basically allow you to use your power lines in house, to communicate, provided they can get clean signal between two adapters. In terms of ping, they are in between, not as good as straight UTP cable, but they also fix many issues WiFi has and give you ping somewhere in between. You just need empty power socket next to router and in your room. Just saying, since Flacon didn't touch on that.

But mainly, try using UTP cable, get router that can do QoS and will prioritize realtime traffic and you should have good time. As for gaming VPNs, only get those if you know issue is with how packets are routed. Because they tend to often be overrated. However, a good reason to have VPN is to hide your IP address. Needless to say, for games or services that support dedicated servers at player or have direct connection between you and other player, there are ways to get IP address of certain player and it wouldn't be first time someone pissed off some server admin or someone playing with P2P networked game, to get their IP and start DDoS attack. This is where VPN can do wonders for you, since it hides your IP address. That being said, again, you don't necessarily need gaming VPN to get best out of it, a lot of normal VPNs will do just fine, since they will effect routing as well and if their servers are close, ping penalty for it will be minimal as well. Plus unlike Falcon, I know little secret, your ISP doesn't have full control over how packet is router over internet backbone, they only have influence for their network, as soon as it leaves ISPs network, internet backbone is taking care of routing. Though if you do experience high ping, it is still worth contacting your ISP about it, though they will need some details form your end. Mainly server you are connecting to, how big ping is and what route do packets take. You need first to get other two and other two are just matter of two commands in Command Prompt, "ping" and "tracert". So if you know nothing, you might want to get someone to run those two for you, so you can send results to your ISP and if issue is on their end, they will mostly fix it. Or forward it to appropriate ISP, since internet is much bigger than any individual ISP.

                                                                          • KpopFeels MyJams

It actually doesn't have to be due to long an complex routing. Internet packages travel (due to the wide spread implementation of fiber optics) often near 100% light speed between network nodes (computers, routers, servers, etc.). A high ping sometimes involves message queues (waiting list for "less important" messages) these are usually not a big problem because the get cleared faster than they get filled, but if some parts of the infrastructure goes down or too may people watch Netflix (for example) it can lead to a situation where your packages have to wait at your ISP (or some other node like the ISP of the gaming server or the actual server itself if it can't handle the input) to get processed further. This is also why it is sometimes "cheaper" to take a more complex route, just to reduce the amount of data running trough one route and resulting in longer wait times or even package loss.

what ive noticed is that if I play online games at a reasonable time then I can get into better quality matches with lower ping. However if I play at late night after midnight then I'm screwed as I will have to increase my ping search to get into a match and most likely those players will be from USA or somewhere far with better ping rate than me which will most likely cause my gaming session to suck due to the lag. This was the same thing on the xbox and same for me on PC.
