Yaasss TT. I remember she would collect gently used prom dresses from girls in Richmond that couldn't afford new ones. She help them with makeovers and even shoes and jewelry. So happy for her.

A good thing Is that she identified herself as being black. Most Caribbean Latino especially D.R do not care or research their history and say they are white. Yes some are mix with European, but majority are African or have African ancestors and are of African descendants.

Most Latinos are 75% European with traces of native American and traces of black if they are from the Caribbean.
That is why most Latinos must legally identify as white.
Only self hating black people try to make mixed and metzito Latinos identify as black.

Tone Riggz yes you are right. On the other side I will tell you what I see just being African in America. If I am wrong fine, conversation between adults. From slavery it was African people take from they land, separated and spread all over the world. Till today we are not being enslaved like that but we are still limited. Blacks in the US do not consider most Latinos as blacks because they are not 100% African, just like some Europeans do not consider you white if you have I think 1% black dna blood in you. I am not making excuses for the blacks but all the fights, the beatings, the imprisonments, the killings of blacks are majority black Americans not mix’s or Latino blacks. The movies or tv when black African wanted to be on tv, they were being made a mockery and ridicule. I personally feel we have taken the blows for many years and we are still taking the blows for other minor race and blacks open the doors for Latinos, Asian people, etc. still blacks get no respect from other minors races, especially from other minors. Think about that. I am just saying maybe that is why they do not consider black Latinos. But I love both sides of blacks n Latinos. “Mi gente”.

@Mawidza Aurel See, whenever the topic of Blackness in Latin America gets brought up, one of the first things that people say is "Black Latinos don't acknowledge their Blackness". It's true that many don't, but many also do, especially now that the internet and social media has given more people a voice. There is more visibility now than ever before. But the complaints are always one sided. A lot of Black people in America don't accept Latinos as being Black, even if those Latinos acknowledge it themselves. It goes both ways. It seems that some US Black people don't consider you part of their struggle if you can't trace your lineage to Anglo-Saxon, continental US slavery. Of course, anyone who knows history, knows that the African diaspora was a global event.

Tone Riggz ok. So what, it is about you. I understand that, everyone in this world will never accept you but I do not deny who I am. There are blacks that do not accept blacks ( you are light skin, fair skin or mix). You do not think i get discriminated by D.R especially when I tell them I am also Haitian and Cuban descendants, dark skin. Those who know my love me. People tell me “ oh you are different, you do not act or look like them”. I love my people from but sides but there are issues. Together we can do incredible things.

@Michael Abram III We might have black roots that go back many many generations all the way to Africa...but we're not racially black...but i see what you're trying to say...some latinos are definitely black though...the afro-latinos but even the indigenous aren't racially black....and most of us are indigenous and spaniard

Puerto ricans are MIXED even the afro latinos. If it's so important to mention their blackness it should be as important to mention the rest of their roots. Latinos will always rep their culture regardless of their skin color so deal with it fam

We call ourselves puertorican because our island was a port where people from all over the world would stay mix(majority was rape) with native people to the point everyone is mixed with a couple or few races. instead of identifying as just one race that doesnt really represent our dna or heritage we call ourselves puertorican and people get an idea of what races we're. For this lady she is probably majority native, european and maybe black.
