Hiya Scotty! I have a '98 Toyota Corolla with a bit of a leaky power steering fluid cable like you mentioned in the video! How much would you say it'll cost to replace it? Toyota Dealership in Corvallis, OR quoted me $1700 which seems just like a bit much.

Going to sell it soon, should I try and sell it someone else? Just junk it? Seems like a good car, junkyard seems like a waste!

Hi Scotty — My apologies if someone already asked, but did any other 05-16 Toyota/Lexus models with that 3.5L V6 have the same leaking VVT problem? Thanks for your time! Keep up the great work! BTW, my top Christmas gift wish list item this year is a “scotty” T-shirt *crossing fingers*.

Once that model was done in the US, Toyota Australia got all the press tools to continue making that shape into the early 2000's. It was still called the Avalon. Originally it was going to be called the Centaur until it was discovered that the Centaur was a hospital ship torpedoed by the Japanese off the coast of Queensland in 1943...

Actually the Toyota Crown preceded the Cressida as their luxury model in the US. I worked for a used car dealer in the sixties who imported bootlegged Toyotas (Corina, Corona, Crown, etc.) as well as bootlegged European model VWs. The Toyotas at that time were reliable but very "tinny".

Scotty, I have watched your channel for sometime & appreciate you passing on your wisdom & knowledge...especially about the Toyota cars that will go 300,000+ miles. The other day you said, "Don't buy a car with 150,000+ miles on it and expect to make it a daily driver...it's got a 150,000 miles on it somethings going to break down. I agree, but I am curious as to how I would get a Toyota to 250,000 to 300,000 to 450,000 miles by only driving it on the weekends? Don't mean any disrespect just curious.

I have the choice between rear wheel drive and a 4Matic version, both with about 120,000 miles. Which Power train should I go with? Should I go with the diesel or the gas? How much should I pay; under three grand? And yes of course I would get it checked out by a mechanic. Is there potentialy another Mercedes Benz sedan from the mid to late 80s to the 90s that maybe a better option? To be honest, I have fallen for Mercedes diesel’s. Budget won’t necessarily make or break the deal. Thanks in advance!

Oh and the gas struts arent as expensive as you say, there are many different brands that fit most cars at affordable prices. And plus theres more space for you to move around the engine with them 👍 get with the times scotty 🤭

That replacement part also failed about 30,00o miles later at the rubber hose connection The 3rd time that part failed the Toyota dealer replaced the bad oil line (part #15707-31030) with a different all-metal oil line (part #15772-31030 ). I have not had another problem with that oil line.
