Mr. Colbert's eloquent treatis on his faith starting at about 6:26 was not only poetic but a beautifully logical construction of how he arrives at having faith and evidence coexist in his mind and heart. I will always be grateful for his thoughtful clarity.

We need to have more honest discussions like this and quit taking sides. Atheism is just as profound as Theism.

                      Tyson is genuinely kind...
He prefaced with:(loosely translated) you're father made a living using SCIENCE AND EVIDENCE.. then asked if he would "rather know or not know" (this is to get you out of your typical religious mindset) and Colbert answered "I would rather know" ...so, so far Tyson has just proved that Colbert not only benefited from science and evidence, but also how it makes more sense (better to know not know) then ask Colbert why if he answered this way, how could he still hold his religious views... Colbert then does the typical cop out of saying oh well since we don't know it DOESN'T exist it's okay to believe in religious figures... but he says it in a very wordy fashion that makes it sound as if he's won the argument...tyson looks at him like...yeah right but let's him off the hook...god how I wish Christopher Hitchens was still alive... would have hitch slapped the shit out of colbert with reason.

Stephen Colbert sounds like a constipated philosopher and a closet Atheist.

                            But still a great comedian.

I certainly never said anyone ever needs their feeling sheltered lol. It's not walking on egg shells to say that some critiques people make on religion just don't translate in actual discussion or reflection of views.

It’s not a straw man to call the stories of religions fairytales. By fairytales I mean bullshit stories which is exactly what they are. Some have kernels of truth to them, but those kernels are surrounded by the fiction of magic and mysticism.
And who are you to say what the right arguments are? People change their minds for different reasons. Some people need to have it presented to them in a “walking on eggshells” fashion, others react to bluntness and ridicule. If I say Christianity is based on bullshit fairytales, that might be the first time someone has heard that. And while it might upset them at first, perhaps later on they start to think about how there really are many similarities between the stories of their holy book and the stories they read as children. This is why multiple approaches are needed. You need both the firebrands and the non-firebrands, because they both are effective.
I can tell you from personal experience that not everyone needs to have their feelings sheltered in order to realize they are wrong.

Furthermore it's a straw man fallacy to compare this to fairy tales. It just turns religious people off from listening. The overall decline in religion shows that the right arguments can change people's minds.
