I was ATTACKED by cockroaches when I was AT MY FRIEND’S

- Hello! Today Julia want to tell you a terrible story. It’s about how some people live.
"For me personally, this lesson was the most valuable.
I have a friend, her name is Sarah. We met at school and we used to play together a lot. Our houses are close to each other. So our parents let us stay after school together, and we had even more fun! So we made good friends, and we started seeing each other. I mean, mostly Sarah came to see me.
Besides, I have my own room in the attic. Mom never comes there without my permission. I got a lot of toys and some interesting things which I can easily share with Sarah. Sometimes she even stayed at our place overnight, so it was really cool! We could talk till dawn about some school stuff and boys or we just told each other scary stories.
When we were 10, I realised I had never come over to Sarah. And I was terribly curious to see how my best friend lived! I asked her for a visit. But Sarah was totally against it. She didn’t explain why. I was even offended. I always gave her anything she wanted, and she can’t even invite me to her place!
I talked to my mom, but she said I shouldn’t get offended because of this. Nobody knows what's going on there at her home, right? Maybe her parents just forbid her to take friends in or maybe they have a sick family member there. We had a girl in our class whose grandma was paralysed. So, she also didn’t invite anyone. Her parents forbade her to disturb granny. I thought my mom knew better and forgave Sarah. But I decided to keep trying. Just don't push on her.
We agreed to take care for hamster in turns - week after week. We already started working when the teacher said we needed to watch the hamster at least two hours a day, but every day. Sarah got tense, but she didn't say anything. So, the hamster lived at my home and we watched our «object of study».
After a week it was Sarah's turn. She started acting weird. First, she said she could not take me in and I better just rewrite her own research later. Then she even tried to get away. And when it didn't work – she started shouting at me and got really angry. I was offended and went to the teacher.
I don't know what the teacher said to Sarah, but she came up to me after class, apologised, and invited me home. She was very nervous. But I was not going back. After all, her parents are not ogres who would eat me for dinner, right? And Sarah should learn to be hospitable. Because sometimes she even lived at our place.
Anyway, I regretted I started it all already in the hallway. Somehow I have never seen Sarah’s parents. We never met. It turned out her parents were free artists who had… well, a specific way to see the life.
I'm a pretty neat girl myself. I cannot imagine myself not washing a table after a meal. And here I saw a mountain of dirty dishes in the sink. It looked like they’d been there for a couple of days already. So, I politely refused to have a cup of tea and immediately went to Sarah’s room. I wanted to finish it as soon as possible and go home.
However, her room was clean. Apparently, she cleaned her room herself and she didn’t let her parents come in. So, I relaxed and sat down on the bed. I started recording my observations of the hamster. At some point, Sarah relaxed too and asked me to get some more paper out of the bedside table. So, I just reached out without any fear.
Oh, I wish I hadn’t! Because some cockroaches fell from it right on my hand! Not like this…. COCKROACHES!!! There were hundreds or even thousands of them! All this sea of moving insects was going on me. I have never screamed like that! I grabbed the hamster in the cage and ran out. I even forgot my notebook.
We still get in touch with Sarah sometimes. After all, it wasn't her fault her parents were like that. However, I don’t visit her anymore. We hang around at my place. I haven't told anyone what I saw at her home. I don't want any conflicts with Sarah and I don’t like to gossip".
