Ok so are you going to make healthy options cheaper
And forcing the food industry from basically poisoning us.
Live a healthy life yes do that, exercise often but dont over do it.
Weight and shape are not important as long as you are living as Healthily as possible

Hey, you know why people in Europe don’t have the same obesity rates? Because the EU and many governments care what goes in people’s mouths and prioritize health to profits for corporations. There is so much shit and sugar in food in the states that is actually banned in Europe. Put some regulations on your goddamn food, make healthier choices more affordable and then you can blame the people.

As a current fat guy myself, I completely agree with Maher. Corden was totally dishonest in his relating of this bit; Maher literally said "of course we shouldn't taunt people about it (being fat)", he's not endorsing bullying the overweight/obese. All he is saying is that we need to stop accepting and glamorizing obesity and tip-toeing around the fact that its bad thing. And that to me is pretty self-evident.

I think Corden spotted his chance to make a righteous call-out and get all the viral glory that comes with it. SMH.

Got it. As an overweight American, I concur. I know it's a problem ; however, the passion at which he goes after unhealthy eating as a vice of Americans is ironic, given his pot smoking. Smoking weed may not be as big of a deal health-wise as being overweight, but even with the legalization of marijuana in several states, those who do drugs still have blood on their hands. The illegal trafficking of drugs as a result of the drug users (INCLUDING WEED) and all of the fallout of its international commercial trade has much more far-reaching, *violent*, life-destroying consequences than eating poorly. If you do drugs, unless it's something you grow and manufacture in your own backyard, you are part of a global black market economy which has ruined the economy of Mexico and many other Latin American countries, among others. I don't know why most people don't understand this.
But, yes. fatsos do also have health problems.

You should be ashamed of yourself talking about people the way you do, not all large people are due to over eating , you stupid man, think before you open you over large mouth . Some people can not afford healthy food, junk food is more assessable. You should really be sacked for your t v abuse, also over weight can be due to health problems. So keep your program for Americans, us English don't want or need the likes of you. And by the way I am not a fat person, I weigh in at 7.5 stone. So shut your big mouth.and get of the. T V.

Go educate yourself Bill, obesity is a problem but it’s not the cause, you need to look further why people are becoming obese, hint: there’s many.

Sounds like you have a lot of internal self judgement to be projecting this on air, sounds like you should start there.

Especially if you can’t relate to what you’re addressing.

Question: If we shame those that over eat and become fat, why do we celebrate those who over eat and remain thin? They are celebrated for being BORN THAT WAY, yet those born with bodies that do get fat with the same amount of food, and in some cases less are shamed. Why? Because it is not about the food, or health, it is about size and shape, and being born different. If this was about control, self discipline, health, and such, those that over eat, thin or fat, would be targeted, but only fat people are. In fact thin people are congratulated for something they had no hand in, because they simply were born that way. It’s like celebrating them for being born with brown eyes, and hating others for having dark skin color ... yeah, let that sink in.

See Bill always makes good points before running his boomer mouth off until nothing makes sense. He talks about science which is good, but ignores the scientific proof that fat shaming doesn’t work. He talks about comparisons with smokers and alcoholism, but forgets that when you taunt a smoker they’ll never quit, same with an alcoholic. What works is support and provision. Why should a poor person spend $10 buying a salad for themselves when they can buy 10 burgers for their families and neighbors with that kind of money? The pro-fat movement is horrible and damaging, but it’s just a reaction to a society that doesn’t wanna help; it just wants to bully.

I agree with everything except for the fat-shaming part. I think it's ok to tell someone that they're becoming or already are obese and they need to fix it, but to go the extra mile and make fun of them for it is completely fucked up. If fat-shaming were the answer every high school kid would be slim.

While there is no doubt that a healthy diet matters, ultimately Bill Maher is completely wrong on this issue. It is laziness/lack of exercise that is causing obesity. Put down the phone, Get off your butt, and do something that makes you sweat everyday, and people will return to normal. That is what happens when technology makes life easier for you. You get out of shape,  and stupid because you are relying on everything around you to do it for you! Any questions?

PREACH! Watching this as a Canadian and the situation is exactly the same here, the rates of obesity are insane and the culture of fat people not having to take responsibility for their weight/associated health issues is nuts. Instead, the focus is on prescribing people with pills and surgeries to combat their associated health conditions rather than resolving the root cause of these issues - their diet. Not to mention that the food pyramid promotes eating a bunch of carbs (which is just sugar) while discouraging eating meat...

I don’t disagree with the facts about obesity being detrimental to society, but fat shaming will do NOTHING good and in many cases just sends people back to the drive thru. You think because you realized people are fat you suddenly have all the answers for dealing with the obesity crisis? You’ve never done extensive research into methods of extreme weight loss and their various levels of effectiveness. You just looked up some cause of death stats, told your shitty writers to come up with some cheap jokes, applied your holier-than-thou slimy hair gel, and went on the air to shit out of your mouth for 7 minutes. You don’t want to help. You just want to look like you have all the answers.

In this piece Bill literally says we shouldn't taunt people for their weight. But rather than acknowledging that admonishment of bullying, his critics go after the fact he encouraged fat shaming, but without realising that Bill seems to be using that term as an antonym of fat acceptance. They also fail to notice that Bill was taking square aim at fit shaming, which is where people are attacked for supposedly making overweight people look bad because they posted on social media their successful loss of weight.

What I took away from this video is that Bill is going after the PC madness that is coddling obesity and encouraging the sort of body positivity that protects the overweight and obese. So seeing those critics going after Bill for supposedly promoting bullying, it seems they didn't watch the whole video and are instead just responding to his use of the word 'fat shaming.'

                                                                  • J-Me

And what about pie n mash and moules frites? (Yes, it's supposed to be a joke. Among the "serious" answers: these foods are not representative of European "cuisine" [pardon my French]; Americans add all sorts of other stuff to them, not just good healthy Senf any German would be content with [and American mustard ain't the real McCoy anyway]; Americans eat WAY TOO MUCH at one sitting, and seem to eat when they're not even hungry [no Italian would do that!]; even: Americans don't drink enough wine with their meals [or at all]: cuts through the bad stuff [and, New Orleans and adjoining parishes notwithstanding, I wonder if there is some type of correlation between states with strict [prudish, to European eyes] drinking laws and obesity, or conversely cannabis deregulation and obesity.) In comparison to the US, Europeans, in some countries, aren't that fat, but put Scotland and Louisiana together and they're comparable on the high end, put Denmark and Colorado, on the lower. Europe statistically is where the US was say 7 years ago, and is catching up fast. No room for complacency, smugness and superciliousness there, perhaps.

I get 50 foodstamps a month. that is not enough to cover 4 weeks straight of purely healthy foods. people have claimed that you can live healthy on such a meager budget, but when celebs have tried to do the same, although they were able to get primarily healthy products, their visit to the doctor after said experiment resulted in a lack of nourishment. they were tired and sluggish all day because of how limited the options were on such a budget. you need to wake the fuck up and shame the government for not making it more affordable to consistently eat healthy foods. but you won't, because you like the feeling of smug satisfaction after shaming people who don't have anywhere near the voice that you have.
