Tuvalu: a tiny nation taking on Australia and the world to fight climate change | The World

  • This year’s Pacific Islands Forum is being held on one of the smallest and least-visited nations on Earth, Tuvalu. The forum is being held in the nation’s capital, Funafuti, a tiny atoll not even half the size of Melbourne’s CBD.

Tuvalu is facing an existential crisis if sea levels rise as many scientists predict, and it will be pushing hard for nations like Australia to do more on climate change.

Fiji is sinking tectonic plates. Fiji is sinking into the earth's crust. The sea is not rising around Fiji. Australia owes these islands nothing, why would they? Is Australia just an easy target, there are worse countries for carbon are there not? The sea is not rising, carbon is not warming the globe. The global warming is a scam for pay outs and carbon tax. Fiji is used as a big propaganda tool, the plate tectonics are not mentioned, it is all blamed on made up sea level rise. They get money for this from blamed countries. This is wrong. Australia is in enough trouble without being ripped off and not allowed to burn its own coal; the whole thing needs calling out now, it's getting ridiculous.

The sea levels are not rising. They were spooked by a cyclone that hit last year swamping alot of land.

Climate change, global warming, ozone layer is all crap.
There is no climate emergency, it's a transfer of wealth from wealthy western nations to the poorer pacific nation's.

UAE is rich as fuck. poorer countries can't afford things like land reclamation, desalination and other advanced terraforming tools. Tuvalu is poorer and has less people than Alice Springs.

Australia carbon foot print on a world scale is 0.03%
People need to research what they are commenting on .
What this is really about is China's movement into the south
Pacific and these island nations trying to black mail more money
                              Out of Australia .
I say let China take (care) of them .
Australia has taken care of them long enough .

we're a mass exporter of coal, so it's obviously above way above 0.03%. but sure, lets give the south pacific to china, at least they can build some shit to make the islands bigger. because we're not going to do it.

This is a nice gesture but it will have ZERO effect on global climate. I'll bet one factory in China will emit more greenhouse gases in a day than this island in a year. And one natural wild fire will emit more carbon over a couple weeks than this island.
(Some qualifiers for the climate-alarmist people: The earth is 4.5 billion years old. Climate change is a natural occurrence. Human activity is definitely a factor in our current climate cycle, but there are many other factors completely beyond our control).

Australia exporting 400+ million tons of coal per year contributes disproportionately to climate change. Australia has failed in meeting its commitments.

Tuvalu people need to realise that Australia is not in any way responsible for global sea levels rising ,,, with only 25 million people in Australia .
The reality is Australia only produces 0.55 % of global emissions,,,, so Tuvalu and other pacific islands need to voice their concerns to America, Europe , and in particular China , India, as these countries represent the vast majority of emissions that are harmful to the environment.

Sea levels are regulated by the Sun. Not by man.
When the Sun is more active, the water heats and expands, also when the Sun is more active the Earth spins faster and the sea rises at the equator region.
                                        Simple scientific facts.

This sovereign nation needs U.N enforced migration.
So sad to see a nation with closed and racist borders, it's time for a positive change

@B M Are you expecting a thank you from an island nation forced under British colonial administration, and that lost the usefulness of a substantial portion of its landmass when the Allies of World War II decided to construct military installations throughout the nation? Tuvalu continues to get screwed over the United Kingdom, even after gaining their independence as a result of the effects of climate change.

@Bryce Kerr why...the Brits brought them the modern world...not the Brits fault they screwed it up so bad after they left them to handle it themselves...sigh, not even a thank you for the trouble..

@Sy Sharp exactly right my friend. More people are needed to make their economy prosper, unlimited immigration, more government, more welfare, more public programs, no guns, single mum`s, kids in daycare, destruction of family and tradition.

@Sy Sharp Yes it will be. Love that diversity. I also think the British in the Falklands should open their borders to some of the less well off Argentinians, Do you reckon that would go down OK?
