Teslas are already the cars that are changing the world. What do you think has made every auto maker get serious about producing EV's for the EV market. No one was truly serious about EV's until tesla made them get serious. They continued to to give us hybrids with 30 mile battery range or ugly cars like the Leaf, and Volt.

I live in South Africa, I wonder how they will stop this vehicle from being stolen. Hopefully a remote kill switch that the owner possesses.

We need to stop making EVs out of steel. BMW got this right with the i3, a complete rethink of a car from the ground up with aluminium and carbon fibre making the majority of the structure. The ID3 looks to be a good start from VAG, but that weight!

GeoStreber - Steel is very energy intense to produce, the furnaces have to kept going 24/7 to avoid damage to them, steel itself is a medieval invention, it rusts and is heavy relative to its strength. Aerodynamics have nothing to do with the material, but the shape. If aircraft were made of steel they would struggle to get airborne. Steel cars get heavier with each new version to meet crash test demands. It's an ugly duckling, but BMW had the right idea for an EV with the i3, aluminium and carbon fibre with plastic body panels - light weight, no corrosion issues. If we all drive EVs, the electricity demand will be huge; it is therefore important that they are efficient in terms of distance travelled per kWh of energy, this means they must be light weight, and aerodynamically efficient.

I don't agree. If you have a certain amount of money to invest in reducing the amount of energy usage, it seems to make more sense to make the car more aerodynamic rather than more light. Weight is only a secondary concern, and I wouldn't be surprised if that problem solved itself in the future because of progressively more energy dense batteries.

EV’s are very interesting, but is the UK’s infrastructure ready for it now? It seems like manufacturers are, but apart from Tesla’s, I rarely see a charging station.

Just remember that not everyone can afford to ditch their current car, not everyone has somewhere to charge their car (ie: no garage, drive .. I live in a Victotian terrace house with no drive, garden or no guaranteed parking space outside my house.)... What happens to all of those eco cars and their batteries when they fail, or need to be scrapped?
