Its really cool learning about the intended functionality and design in normal suburban designs that we've taken for granted!!! Extremely interesting, would love to see more educational videos from him

I think that the house matches perfectly with Jay from the Modern Family. He has his closet business which is somewhere at the top with regards to design, follows modern trends and wins awards. He might be conservative with his personal views, but when it comes to design I think that he's open to innovation.

do a breakdown of 60s-80s eastern European block building apartment, everything is concrete, everything is grey color, all the houses are the same, no views, no space, everywhere is crowded, 4 people live in 45 sq. meters, lots of noise, lots of movement of people you don't even know, if you are lucky to have a garage for your car it's nasty, damp and half a kilometer away so you start questioning why you even have a car if you gotta walk all the time, American suburbia seems like a dream when you live in one of those

I always thought about Jay's house as a visualisation of things that society forces on him. all this modern ideas of whats important, whats ok and whats family. jay is a conservativ guy who came to money. so he builds a house that looks like the modern society thinks a rich-mans-house should look like. because he's incapable of merging this new ideas with his own ones, he lives in opposites. like watching old wester movies in a modern stilistic house. so yes, the house tells his story of evolving in a very very clever way. "modern family" is just very well done

One observation: Your comments on suburbs regarding "Weeds" betrays your elitism. Historically, the elites, either through Divine Provenance, or Darwinian evolution, always felt they knew better for the masses. The high density containment of masses that you seem to praise is a manifestation of that elitism. The implication that masses should not be allowed to live in areas other than high density containment, with elites having greater control on existence (deliberate or by default) clearly illustrates this elitism. Your justification for environmental reasons, that you may sincerely believe, is the current excuse used to oppress masses by the knowing-what's-good for them elites. Be it the 'window tax' imposed on subjects by European feudal rulers or the 'carbon taxes' imposed by their ideological descendants the European socialists, the end point is the same, suppression of masses by elites.

The much maligned suburbs, by elites, in reality is a equalization to the masses, most all of whom fled oppressive cultures, where only the nobility could own land and space, with subjects living in confined squalor, be it the Irish peasant, living under British monarch, the Eastern European Jew, the Sicilian peasant oppressed by crime thugs, later peoples fleeing Iron-Curtain oppressive states, or more recently the Latino fleeing the Patron/Peyonne system, the sub-Saharan African fleeing from strong-men governments, etc., many of them ultimately, or their children, end up preferring the maligned suburb, rather that the high density, 'East German workers' type setting elites think is best for them. This is not jingoism this is a reality that masses understand, that elitist are either incapable or unwilling to see.

                                                                                      • debzm3

But also the stuff they used... I really like these videos. I have also seen other shows where they analyze people outfits!

Think it's funny the only time the environment is brought up is subtle small homes that were and are actually affordable by most people, but the larger homes including mansions even though those use many more times the energy in AC and more space than small houses... oh that's not bad because only a few 1% (mansions) and top 20% (large homes) are going to live in them.
Rest of you: Go rent forever to pay us top nobility I mean "successful" folks. And forget about the fact that metro areas are often 1.5 x to 10 times more expensive in rent or buying a condo unit. And work is still often located far from the metro area too unless you're working retail or some flaky freelance nonsense; in that case you probably can't even afford to live outside the metro area, let alone, in it.
Basically, everyone else: go eat dirt.
